The Hot Room Instructors

All of our instructors have completed an intensive teacher training. They have immersed themselves in an in-depth study of this yoga and have taught classes throughout the country.

I love practicing the Bikram method. I believe in this yoga and I am so happy to share this yoga with everyone in Indianapolis.

I have always enjoyed being active. I spent several years growing up as a competitive gymnast. I attended the University of Washington and was a member of their nationally ranked cheer squad. Go Huskies! I have run marathons, completed triathlons, but now my life long passion is Hot Yoga.

My first class was a disaster and I left thinking, “Why would anyone want to do this?! ” I didn’t know if I loved it or hated it. I guess it was a love/hate relationship. It was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done, but I loved how I felt after class. Many of you will feel the same way.

Thankfully, I rediscovered the yoga again in NYC while working long hours as a pharmaceutical sales manager. I practiced consistently for a month and I have never turned back.

While living in Vienna, Austria a new yoga studio had opened a few blocks away from our flat. I was then inspired to head Bikram’s nine week intensive teacher training in the fall of 2010. I have had the opportunities to practice and teach in several countries such as Austria, Turkey, Germany, and Latvia.

With this yoga, I have never felt better in my life. I owe it to this yoga for keeping me calm and and full of energy during my two pregnancies. This yoga allows me to give even more to my kids and husband. The challenge of this practice and the feeling of being reborn, keeps me coming back to the hot room everyday.

I encourage you to come into every class with an open heart and open mind. Try the yoga to the best of your abilities and watch yourself SWEAT, STRETCH, and TRANFORM.

I took my first Bikram class because taking the yoga was the only way to fit into my amazing wife’s (at that time my girlfriend) busy schedule.   Almost even years and two kids later, I’m still so amazed by her and thankful that I had the insight to follow her around!

However, I hated my first three classes.  I will never forget how they made me feel so out of shape.  From that point it was on and off relationship with regards to practicing Bikram yoga for me.  It wasn’t until we moved overseas that I again got into the yoga. This time with full force!  I dove into my first 30-day challenge and did doubles for the first time!  I started to actually suck my stomach in while in postures and was able to finally get my foot behind my calf muscle in Eagle.  I was traveling so much (on airplanes) for work that I needed the stretching to keep myself sane.  The yoga also provided a sense of home.  Although the languages were different, the postures were the same everywhere.  I had an opportunity to practice the yoga in German, Turkish, Korean, Latvian and Spanish and really grew to love the universal nature of this yoga.

We moved back, three years after we left, and found that the practice of Bikram yoga still had not manifested itself into a studio in Indianapolis.  We decided to build it for ourselves and for the community that we knew would love it as much as we do.  Since then the journey has become even more interesting.  In the summer of 2014, I went to Victoria, BC.  I took one month off from work to become certified to teach the Bikram style of Hatha Yoga.  The experience was life changing. The yoga, combined with the 1:1 instruction made everything come to life even more.  I definitely saw my body change, but more importantly, I realized my mind was changing.  Ask me how and I’ll tell you more when we meet!

I love teaching and helping to bring this realization to others.  Like most amazing things, this too will take practice, dedication and time…but the results are nothing short of amazing!  Come and find out for yourself!  Our amazing instructors and I will be there to guide you every step of the way!

I was introduced to the Bikram method of yoga by my 3 adult children.  In August of 2013, they took me to my first class in Bozeman Montana where the elevation is 4793 feet versus 715 feet in Indianapolis!  It was a class that I will never forget!  I took my next class in Columbus, Ohio, where I learned a studio had opened in Indy called “The Hot Room."  It’s been a year since my first class at the The Hot Room, where this yoga has become a major factor in my life. It has helped to keep my arthritis at bay, my degenerative hips healthy and my overall health great!   Six months in I decided I wanted to teach and further deepen my yoga practice.  In the Fall of 2014, I headed off to Mexico and immersed myself into one month of yoga training; where I became 200 RYS Yoga certified.  Since then, I have been back in Indy where I immersed myself in the culture of the The Hot Room.  I love being able to teach, And I love helping others navigate the path toward health and focus that I have been fortunate enough to walk down.  My advice to new students is to come in with an open mind and an open heart.  Do the best you can and keep coming.  This is one of the best things you can do for your body and mind.

After only a couple classes I started to see and feel the benefits of the yoga. Needless to say, I was hooked. I came to my first Bikram class in December 2013 after a close friend told me I should try a class. Coming into class I had no idea what to expect so I invited my sister to come with so I wouldn’t chicken out. I was actually "too" hydrated for my first class and I had to lay on the floor most of class.  However, I came back the following Monday and I haven't looked back since.  I also made the decision to further deepen my yoga practice by going to yoga training.  I completed my yoga training in Spring 2014 and I am honored to guide you in your yoga practice.  My advice to any current or prospective students is not to give up. Keep coming to class and giving everything you can that day and you will begin to see and feel the changes. It's challenging, but so worth it. Always remembers that your best is always enough.

I have been practicing various styles of yoga since 2003 and teaching since 2010. My first Bikram style class was here in Indianapolis taught by a guest teacher in late 2012. Because I was so accustomed to a different style of yoga, my first impression was mixed, but I was so intrigued by the immediate benefits that I took every possible class I could. Just a few months later, I chose to go through specific training and started teaching in August 2013. With over a decade of prior experience as a yoga student and teacher, I truly believe the positive change we wish to see in the world around us starts within our own mind and heart. My advice to new students is to take it easy the first few classes.  Give yourself the opportunity to get acclimated to the heat and start seeing the benefits from this yoga.  This yoga will truly challenge your mind and body to another level and the feeling of accomplishment after class is unlike any other feeling.  I hope to bring the great, many benefits of yoga to our community. I hope to see your smiling, happy face on your yoga mat soon!

I took my first Bikram class in April 2008 and that day changed my life.  After taking a few classes, I was turned on to how good I felt in my body, the peaceful presence I felt after each class and the vitality and health of fellow yogis.
I studied Bikram Yoga in Palm Springs. Shortly after, I began teaching immediately in Las Vegas and then Perth(WA), Joondalup and Scarborough. I traveled to Ubud and Bali for healing and yoga teaching experience as well as New Zealand to study Maoris. After a year in Perth, I was contracted for a teaching gig in Belfast, yet upon arrival, became very ill. I welcomed the health challenge as I sensed it was my body going through a deep cleansing and purging of a lifetime of emotional and physical toxins. I realized in order to serve and teach others I must tend to myself. I began to heal with yoga and meditation and holistic modalities.

Bikram yoga has opened up many avenues for me but most importantly spiritually and becoming self aware. Extra bonus- I have met heaps of loving people along my journey that I will always be connected to.  I look forward to being a part of The Hot Room community and teaching and learning from you.

I took my first Bikram yoga class in 2000 while visiting a friend in San Francisco. I was hooked after that first class! When I came home to try and take a Bikram yoga class in Indianapolis I was met with skepticism when trying to find a hot yoga class! Finally in 2013 Hye Jin opened up a Bikram method studio and her love of this style of yoga could be practiced! Even though Bikram yoga is my preferred preference, I have been teaching Spinning and Pilates since 2000. I am married to my college sweetheart Matt and have two children, Emma and Hank. It is my goal as The Hot Room studio manager to make your experience here the best that it can be. We are here to support you and welcome you to our wonderful community that we have built within The Hot Room!

My first exposure to the Bikram method was when the Hot Room came to Indy. It wasn't what I was expecting, but was exactly what I needed in my life. Doing crossfit regularly and having a history of low back problems my body is always tight and my mobility is limited.  What I love most about this yoga were the unexpected benefits that i reaped beyond increased flexibility. The mental benefits such as my ability to stay calm, focus at work, and have patience with people that I interact with (thanks to not fidgeting and focusing on my breath) along with the improved ability to let things go have changed my life.
What I would recommend to new students is to take a look at the 26 postures on the website so you have an idea of what you are trying to achieve. And don't forget that hydration is not just about water intake but about an electrolyte balance. The more water you drink, the more electrolytes you need!  Love, respect, and practice this yoga and you will start to transform into the best version of yourself with the help of the Hot Room community. There's a reason why people keep coming back. Find out for yourself and enjoy the journey!
