I've never tried yoga before. Can I do hot yoga?
Absolutely yes! This yoga is designed for beginners. Don’t worry. We will walk you through what you need to know and chances are you won’t be the only beginner in the room. Come with a positive attitude and just do the best you can. Your best is always enough. Yoga is a lifetime practice and it begins with your very first class.
What if I'm not flexible?
This is the most common misconception about yoga that prevents people from coming to class. However, it should actually be one of the BEST reasons to come to class. All the postures are beginning postures and you do not need to be flexible to practice them. It is not how flexible you are, it’s about the attitude that you bring to class. Try the right way, challenge yourself and you will get 100% benefit.
Why is the room heated? What if I don't like the heat?
Yoga helps to change the construction of the body from the inside out. The room is intentionally heated to warm up the body and assist with circulation, promote detoxification and provide optimum conditions so that the change you want can happen more efficiently. It also allows you to work safely and deeply into the postures, giving faster results. The heat provides a challenging environment which increases your strength, concentration, endurance and stamina. The heat is definitely something that takes getting used to. Through regular practice, you will learn to tolerate the heat and use it to your advantage.
Will I lose weight?
YES. Whatever your fitness level you will find this yoga challenging (it’s why people come back). The postures combine strength, flexibility, balance, and endurance to give you a total body workout. A number of our postures are focused on working your metabolism and helping to balance your blood sugar levels and blood pressure. You will also find that your body will burn fat more efficiently in the heat.
What are the benefits?
With regular practice you can achieve numerous benefits such as:
» Reshaping of your body and weight loss
» Increased energy levels
» Increased metabolism
» Strengthening and toning of your muscles
» Increased flexibility
» Improved immune system
» Reduction in stress
» Enhancement in mental health and clarity
» Increased coordination and balance
» Reduced risk of sports related injuries
Can I practice Hot Yoga while pregnant?
Always consult with your physician, but most women can practice this yoga while they are pregnant. A regular yoga practice can make your pregnancy, labor, and post-partum easier than you expect. Just ask Hye Jin who has given birth to 2 yoga babies.
If you have had a regular yoga practice before becoming pregnant, we recommend that you relax and take a break during the 1st trimester. However, we welcome you back in your 2nd and 3rd trimester. Your teacher will help you with modifications for the poses. If you have never practiced the Bikram method before, we do not recommend practicing in the heat, but you are welcome to purchase a Yoga for Pregnancy DVD at the studio.
How often should I practice?
As with any form of exercise it is recommended that you practice an average of 3-4 times per week to receive the maximum benefits. However, this yoga is perfectly safe to practice every day. In fact, many people will find their bodies craving this total body workout every day. Naturally, the more often you practice, the greater and faster the results you will enjoy. We recommend that you come at least 10 times in your first month to truly experience what this yoga could do for you.
Why the same 26 postures in each class?
This series is designed to work through every system in the body. Cumulatively by the end of class, nothing has been missed, bones to skin, inside out, head to toes. Consider it a routine for maintenance of the human body. They were chosen with care to be accessible to any “body”. The idea being that anyone can start this yoga where they are at. Just come as you are and begin the sequence. Over time you will see your progress as you change and the yoga postures do not.
